Nagra & Wright in Durham: Friday 15th June

Daljit Nagra and Luke Wright

Alington House, Durham
Organiser: Colpitts Poetry
8pm
Friday 15th June

Daljit Nagra’s parents came to England from the Punjab in the 1950s and he grew up in West London and Sheffield. Look we have coming to Dover! won the Forward Prize for best individual poem in 2004, and his poetry collection of the same name is his much-awaited début volume from Faber. Taking in its sights Matthew Arnold’s ‘land of dreams’, it explores the ideals and realities of a multicultural Britain with wit, intelligence and no small sense of mischief, conjuring a jazzed hybrid language to tell stories of aspiration, assimilation, alienation and love.

Luke Wright is one of the UK’s top stand-up poets. He is the founder member of poetry collective Aisle16 and curator and host of the Stand Up Poetry Tent at The Latitude Festival. His début one-man show Luke Wright, Poet Laureate was a big hit at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival, and has toured to over 20 venues this year. He is currently working on the follow-up, Luke Wright, Poet & Man. His first book, co-written with Joel Stickley, is entitled Who Writes This Crap? and is forthcoming from Hamish Hamilton/Penguin in November 2007.

Admission: £3/£2
